The District’s 2011-2012 budget is $6.6 million. About 80 percent of the budget goes to personnel costs. While the state has cut several hundred thousand dollars from the district’s budget the last three years, local support has allowed the district to withstand state cuts without laying off teachers.
The local Maintenance & Operations levy, passed in April 2010 provides $1.6 million per year to the district. It funds extra-curricular activities, arts, nursing services, instructional support, curriculum and more.
The Capital Projects & Technology levy, also passed in April 2010, provides an addition $442,000 per year for technology upgrades, new classes such as video productions, technology staff, facilities upgrades and routine building maintenance.
In February 2012, the school board will ask local voters to renew both levies to maintain high quality education for Methow Valley students.
