Dr. Wenzel’s focus in Methow Valley School District is to improve student achievement through improved instruction. He is working closely with staff to examine curriculum, create a balanced assessment system and use research-based instructional practices to maximize learning for each student in the system.
Dr. Wenzel became superintendent of Methow Valley School District in August 2008. He previously served for six years as communications director in Bethel School District near Tacoma, WA.
Other career highlights include teaching junior high, high school and college in the U.S. and Asia, working as a broadcast journalist in Korea and serving as a public information officer in the state legislature.
He received a bachelor’s degree from Earlham College (Japanese Studies), master’s degrees from University of Washington (International Studies) and London School of Economics (Media/Communications) and a doctorate from University of Washington (Education Leadership).
Dr. Wenzel lives in Twisp, WA with his wife, Julie, and their two-year-old daughter, Ruby. His hobbies include theater, music, tennis, reading, eating Indian food and coaching Speech & Debate.
