Springboard Report and Budget Development Process Update

MVSD Budget ProcessDeveloping a Prioritized List of Action Items:
Somewhat recently, each of you should have received a copy of the “Springboard Report to the Community”. If by chance a copy was not delivered to your home, you can find it on the district’s website for your review. The Springboard Report to the Community contains a series of commendations and observations based upon what I have learned about our schools and community. More specifically, it also includes six strategic areas of focus and a set of recommended action items that have emerged as a result of what has been shared by members of our community.

Strategically Aligning our Resources to our Prioritized Actions:
In addition to providing the district with feedback regarding the contents of the Springboard Report to the Community, we are also asking for your participation in the Methow Valley School District Budget Development Process.

The Methow Valley School District Budget Development Process has been designed to promote an inclusive and transparent process that encourages broad stakeholder participation into the development of a balanced budget that strategically aligns our limited resources with the district’s Strategic Vision.

Our Budget:
The Methow Valley School District has an annual budget of approximately 7 million dollars. Like many districts across the state and nation, roughly 83% of the operating budget is spent on staff salary and benefits. With a goal of maintaining another 5-7% in reserve for unforeseen and unplanned expenditures, our district allocates approximately 10-12% in the design and implementation of educational programming.

Participate in the Process:
We want to hear from you…  Please submit your ideas about what we should consider reducing or eliminating in support of budget savings. Also, please share your ideas as to what we should enhance or initiate as part of our planned investments for the 2014-15 school year.

The ideas you submit will be given careful consideration as we work to build a balanced budget that strategically aligns our allocation of resources with our short-term and long-range priorities for action.

You can access the 2014-2015 Budget – Community Request Form by clicking the link below. Completed forms can be mailed or dropped off at the district office no later than Wednesday, March 24th.
