The Work of the Levy Task Force Underway

Methow Valley Schools LevyLead by Co-chairs, Anne Andersen, Director of Teaching and Learning and Drew Simmons, Curriculum, Assessment and Technology Coordinator, the Levy Task Force meeting held it’s first of three scheduled meetings.

With 21 staffers, community members, and a student representative in attendance, the Levy Task Force learned how public school districts in the state of Washington are funded. More specifically, they learned that the state of Washington funds approximately 68% of the Methow Valley School District’s annual operating budget and that our district’s Maintenance and Operations Levy and Technology Levies (representing approximately 28% of our annual operating budget combined) are set to expire at the end of 2016.

The second Levy Task Force meeting is scheduled to take place tomorrow, Thursday, October 29 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm in the elementary school library. During our second meeting, the Levy Task Force will receive a presentation facilitated by Drew Simmons, Technology Committee Chair, highlighting the work of the Technology Committee to update the current four-year Technology Plan.

The Levy Task Force will use the information received during these two meetings to engage in deliberations and formulate a final recommendation to the superintendent as early as Thursday, November 5th, the Levy Task Force’s third and final scheduled meeting.

An agenda and meeting minutes will be posted on the district’s website following each meeting. Community members wishing to observe the work of the Levy Task Force are welcome to attend.
