Traveling for the Holidays? Keep Yourself Safe – Check Your Immunization Records

Washington State Department of HealthMumps have spread to 4 counties in Washington State this month in numbers much higher than previous years. Washington state is at 81 cases this year, up from 7 cases in 2015.

Many in our community will be traveling over the holidays and may be exposed to illness. If you aren’t sure if you or your student are completely immunized, please check with your health care provider and get updated, if needed.

The mumps vaccine is the second “M” in the MMR which is the vaccine for “measles, mumps and rubella”. Every student should have two doses of the vaccine, the first at one year and the second by the time they start kindergarten. Those most vulnerable are children under one (they are too young for the vaccine) and pregnant women.
