Each year, school district employees across the North Central region of Washington State are encouraged to submit the names of colleagues (one certificated employee and one classified employee) they believe represent excellence in public education.
This year, the Methow Valley School District received more submissions than ever, each highlighting the exceptional dedication and commitment to service throughout our schools in support of students and families. However, two names rose to the top…
ADRIAN CHAVEY
Special Education Teacher
As a member of the Methow Valley School District’s Special Education team, Adrian Chavey works collaboratively with students, staff, and parents to ensure every student is able to fulfill their potential and graduate prepared to pursue a wide range of post-secondary college, career, and life opportunities.
When staff was asked why they nominated Adrian for the MVSD Excellence Awards, one staff member stated,
If I were a student in Adrian’s class, she would be one of those teachers I would remember forever. First and foremost, she makes everyone feel safe and loved, and from that bond her students grow and want to do their best… We are so lucky to have her!
Another colleague stated, “Adrian has transformed the Special Education Department with her creativity, kindness, compassion, and dedication to supporting staff and serving students… Each and every student she teaches is better because of her. They feel loved, understood and excited to learn and grow. She challenges all of her students to reach for the stars and expand their goals and minds. We are better because of her!”
JAMES MITCHELL
Para-Educator
A long-time Para-Educator who wears many hats, James Mitchell is a highly respected member of the Methow Valley School District who is loved by all.
When staff was asked why they nominated James for the MVSD Excellence Awards, a staff member who works closely with James stated,
He is a very calm presence… He is wonderful with the students and they really like him. He is always cheerful and polite. In the mornings, I get to witness the students’ excitement when he arrives. They are happy to see him.
Another staff member summed up the thoughts of many by stating, “James goes about his work quietly, never looking for recognition. He is well respected for his calm manner and the safe and fun atmosphere he creates for students… He is a great model for our young people.”
Congratulations Adrian Chavey and James Mitchell, Methow Valley School District’s 2017-18 Excellence Awards Recipients – You make all of us proud!
