The MVSD is excited to share some changes that will be taking place within the Special Education Department next school year!
Sammy Laskey has been selected to serve as the MVSD Special Education Coordinator, assisting Special Education Director, Leanne Lafferty with the management of the program and services provided to students who qualify for services.
As a result, Sammy will be increasing her in-district time to 1.5 days per week beginning next fall. Sammy’s role will primarily be at the elementary with duties around compliance, Birth to 3 and preschool services, Core Team, state assessment accommodations and continuing to improve systems, processes, and services according to OSPI and federal guidelines.
Sammy is a graduate of Liberty Bell High School and Western Washington University. She went on to receive her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions, and later became a board certified Pediatric Clinical Specialist. Sammy worked in both hospitals and outpatient physical therapy clinics as part of her preparation for her true passion – working with children in school based physical therapy.
Since, she has worked as a physical therapist in the school system for 6 years, and loves working in special education. Sammy is passionate about helping all children participate fully and meaningfully in their education, and is an advocate for the children and families she serves. She is excited about this opportunity to expand her role, and to be more involved in the Methow Valley School District.
Please join us as we welcome Sammy Laskey!
