Recognizing MVSD Graduating Class of 2020

Greetings Class of 2020 Families!

Since our buildings were closed on March 17th, LBHS & ILC staff have been imagining what our graduation ceremony might look like in the era of COVID-19, social distancing, and a global pandemic. Not wanting to act without having the most accurate, up-to-date information, we’ve held off on finalizing graduation plans until now. Having sought input from members of the Class of 2020, parents, community members, and the State Superintendent’s Office, we’re excited to share details for Liberty Bell & ILC’s 2020 Commencement Ceremony.

First, there WILL be a ceremony on Friday, June 5th. It will not look like what we’re used to, but we hope that graduating seniors will feel celebrated and honored during this significant milestone.

With the support of the MVSD School Board and in consultation with local public health officials, and law enforcement agencies, while keeping the health and safety of our graduates, families, and staff in mind, the 2020 MVSD Graduation will include two phases:

  1. Graduation Parade Procession: The route will begin at Hank’s, travel down Glover Street, follow Highway 20 north, loop through downtown Winthrop , before proceeding along Twin Lakes Road to Liberty Bell. Parade permits will be issued to graduates and immediate family members only. While community members will not be issued permits to participate in the procession, they are strongly encouraged to join us along the parade route (while adhering to current social distancing recommendations) to celebrate our graduates.
  2. Drive-In Movie Theatre Style Graduation: Families will be allowed one car per graduate for immediate family members only (exceptions made on a case-by-case basis). Vehicles will be parked in rows facing a stage at the entrance to the school. Attendees will be asked to remain in their cars with graduates exiting vehicles to receive their diploma as their names are announced.

While we realize this is a shift in practice and tradition, our intention is that our seniors and their families will be honored in a way that is celebratory, unique, and safe. Please stay tuned for additional details as they become available and don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions.

Congratulations Class of 2020!
