In keeping with the MVSD’s vision of developing curious, creative, compassionate, competent, “action-oriented” citizens prepared to change the world, returning MVE teacher, Kelly Wiest has been selected to serve as the MVE’s half-time IB – PYP Coordinator! In addition to serving as MVE’s IB – PYP Coordinator, Kelly will also continue to teach, serving half-time as a 5th grade teacher. Mindy Miller will serve as her teaching partner.
Kelly has been an educator for over 15 years, working with students in Grade 3, 4, 5, and 6. A resident of the Methow Valley for 20 years now, she began teaching at Methow Valley Elementary in 2006. Kelly has recently returned from a two-year post in India where she worked at The American School of Bombay.
In preparation for her new role, Kelly spent the past two years teaching Grade 5 and shadowing the Primary Years Program Coordinator in Mumbai. Having several years of teaching experience through the lens of the IB – PYP, Kelly firmly believes in an inquiry-based approach to learning and looks forward to rejoining her colleagues here in the Methow Valley. When asked about her return to the Methow Valley, she stated, “I’m eager to both learn about the great work that has happened in my absence and to weave in my new learning and fresh perspectives.”
Working as a half-time 5th grade teacher (in partnership with Mindy Miller) and half-time IB – PYP Coordinator at MVE, Kelly looks forward to supporting her colleagues to create a balanced instructional program that aligns with the district’s vision and instructional framework. She hopes to do so by pushing teachers’ thinking while continuing to develop and refine the current program.
When asked about Kelly replacing long-time IB Coordinator, Anne Anderson, school board member Mary Ann Quigley stated, “I can’t imagine anyone better prepared to support our elementary students and staff… It’s onward and upward!”
Please join us as we congratulate Kelly Wiest, MVSD’s new IB – PYP Coordinator and 5th grade teacher. Welcome back home Kelly!
