Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. ~ Mark Twain
We are pleased to announce that Hana Baker, MVE 2nd grade teacher and Tyler Slostad, MVE 6th grade teacher will be setting sail following the conclusion of the 2020-21 school year. Supported by the MVSD Board of Directors, Hana and Tyler have accepted international teaching positions with the Fagerhaug International School (FINT) in Trondheim, Norway beginning in the 2021-22 school year!
Highly respected members of the Methow Valley School District and Community School, Hana and Tyler have taught Methow Valley youth of all ages for a combined total of over two decades. When asked what excites them most about their new teaching assignment, they stated, “We are delighted about and grateful for this new adventure! Teaching abroad has been a dream of ours for many years. As a family we are all looking forward to experiencing the culture of Norway, meeting new people, connecting with Norwegian relatives, and gaining more of a global perspective.”
When asked, what about FINT appealed to them, they replied, “We are excited to challenge ourselves professionally by teaching in another International Baccalaureate (IB) school. Fagerhaug International School is a small IB school outside the city of Trondheim, Norway. Like Methow Valley School District, FINT is authorized in both IB Primary Years and Middle Years Programs, grades K-10. Students and teachers come from many different nationalities. FINT’s literacy program supports Teacher’s College Reading and Writing Project – which we were both trained in and excited to continue using.”
They concluded by stating, “We feel so fortunate to work in a district and community that supports taking a big of a bite out of life. We look forward to returning to the community we love after learning and growing both personally and professionally. Thank you so much to the Methow Valley School District Board of Directors, Methow Valley Education Association, administration, and staff for this lifetime opportunity.”
Please join us as we congratulate Hana Baker and Tyler Slostad!
