Spectators at Sporting Events — Update

Hello Mountain Lions,

Shoes hanging over goal postsAs sports resume this year, the Methow Valley School District will begin competition without spectators. The purpose of this decision is to provide an opportunity for everyone involved to adjust to the new mitigation strategies and reduce the chances that schedules may be impacted by inadvertent exposure to the COVID virus. This decision is in keeping with policies being implemented by many districts throughout our region, and will provide time to evaluate the effectiveness of physical distancing and safety protocol changes developed to allow the return to sports.

Along with other schools in our region, we feel that this is necessary to prevent the unnecessary gathering of crowds and the spread that occurs when crowds gather. We also feel that this is a reasonable compromise that will be effective in keeping infection rates under control while allowing our student-athletes to perform. Our hope is that this is a temporary strategy. It is within our control to bring the infection rate down and to keep our students, staff and community safe and healthy.

As the season progresses, and as we continue to monitor local health data, health mitigation strategies and other factors, we will reevaluate this policy and announce changes as they are implemented. However, it has been determined that throughout the season no visiting fans will be allowed to attend events. Liberty Bell will be joining other regional schools in offering live-streaming options of all events that we host.

We thank you for your continued support in our efforts to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
