The MVSD is pleased to announce the selection of Jeremiah Wicken to serve as our new Head Strength and Conditioning Coach.
Jeremiah will be leading the S&C program, working alongside an assistant coach and volunteer weight room supervisors to make the Lion’s Den Fitness Center a place where all students are welcome to pursue their goals in a dynamic and supportive environment. In pursuit of this goal, Jeremiah will coordinate with athletic coaches to help their athletes become stronger, faster and more resistant to injury, and will also be available to any student who has an interest in making training and exercise a part of their lives.
Jeremiah is a certified strength and conditioning specialist, as well as a USA Weightlifting Level 1 Coach. He is certified to teach Health/Fitness and Biology at the high school level, and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Kinesiology. As a teacher at the ILC, Jeremiah designs and teaches Math, Science, and P.E. curriculum tailored to individual student needs and interests.
A lifetime of casual interest in lifting evolved into a passion when Jeremiah discovered the transformative power of a Barbell-focused training program. This experience eventually led to participation in competitive lifting as well as coaching and training friends, students, and family. He went on to start an online coaching business where he delivers custom programming and coaching, particularly for individuals interested in improving strength/power/hypertrophy by utilizing a barbell-focused approach.
Jeremiah has learned a great deal from his continuing education and coaching at the Barbell Logic Academy, and his experience competing in the strength sports. Most importantly, he is excited to continue to learn and grow as a strength coach and share what he has learned with residents of the Methow Valley, including students from Liberty Bell and the ILC. Jeremiah lives in Winthrop with his wife, kindergarten teacher Maggie Wicken, and their two children.
We are pleased to welcome Jeremiah and look forward to his contributions to a culture of healthy, fit and active youth in the Methow Valley!
