MVSD Selects Emily Nilson to Serve as R.E.A.C.H Coordinator

The MVSD is pleased to announce that Emily Nilson has been selected to serve as the new K-8 R.E.A.C.H. (Responsive Educational Alternative for Children at Home) Coordinator, replacing Katharine Bill who will be teaching 2nd grade alongside Libby Foley and Meridith Dufresne.

Emily graduated from Whitworth University in 2009 with a BS in Health, Fitness, and P.E along with a Minor in Special Education. After graduating, she spent seven unforgettable months at the 4UR Ranch in Creede, CO as the Children’s Program Director. Serving as the Children’s Program Director, she would take groups of children on adventures including trail rides, caving, shelter building, fly-fishing and more! Following her time on the ranch, Emily put her teaching degree to use by volunteering in Papua New Guinea for five months as a Health/Fitness and Elementary teacher. Later, she earned her Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction and spent eight rewarding years teaching 6th grade at the Renton Christian School.

More recently, Emily has been spending her time working in the Kindergarten Cohort at Little Star’s Montessori School in Winthrop. When asked about her experience working with young learners, Emily stated, “I had an amazing year working with curious and creative minds and enjoyed watching them develop in leaps and bounds, both academically, socially, and emotionally.” Looking forward Emily is excited to, “… begin building relationships with students and partnering with parents in support of their homeschooling experience.”

Emily Nilson and familyEmily and her husband Erik were both drawn to the Methow because of its beauty, recreational opportunities and the genuine kindness displayed by the community. When not working with youth, Emily can be found with her husband and son, biking, fly fishing, hiking, road tripping, bike-packing internationally.
