The MVSD is pleased to announce the selection of Matt Kennedy to serve as the MVSD’s Welding, Fabrication, and Automotive Technology Instructor.
Matt moved to the Methow Valley in July of 2019 and has been working as a Master Technician at Quality Lube and Automotive Repair in Twisp. Matt has been working in the automotive industry for the past 16 years. He went to Bellingham Technical College to obtain his associates degree in automotive technology. Matt has since pursued continuing education and is certified as an ASE Master Technician.
When asked about the opportunity to share his knowledge and work-related experience, Matt stated, “Over the years, I’ve learned to adapt to the latest technological advancements in the car industry and look forward to sharing all I know with the next generation of aspiring technicians.” In addition to Matt’s automotive expertise, he also possesses experience in the area of metal fabrication. Matt prides himself as a professional who reports that he is, “…looking forward to facilitating a safe, clean, organized, creative and educational classroom environment (replicating an industry-standard workplace) where students develop skills they can carry with them throughout their lives, setting them up for success in whatever industry they pursue.”
When we asked one of Matt’s former employers to describe him, they stated, “Matt is careful and trustworthy. He is always on the forefront of changes within the industry. During slow times or breaks, Matt would be engrossed in honing his skills or learning a new technique. He was the “go to” person for complicated issues in our shop. He has a unique ability to tailor his instruction to the skill and abilities of the person he’s working with.”
Following Matt’s acceptance of the position, a member of the district’s search and selection committee stated, “The only downside is that our Valley will be losing access to one of the best automotive mechanics in the Valley. But, I guess that’s what you want – one of the best in the industry training our aspiring young mechanics.” MVSD board member, Dana Stromberger added, “I have every confidence in Matt’s integrity, knowledge, skill, and ability to model a high work ethic… He is a welcome addition to our staff.”
The MVSD’s Welding, Fabrication, and Automotive Technology course offerings take place on the TwispWorks campus. Coupled with the district’s Design and Construction Program, Student-Initiated Independent Projects, Culinary Arts Program, Community-based Internships, and the newly established Outdoor Education and Entrepreneurial Programs, they reflect the district’s strong commitment to cultivating a broad and diverse range of high interest, high demand Career and Technical Education (CTE)/Dual-Credit course offerings – preparing students to graduate with the knowledge, skills, mentorship, and work ethic needed to pursue the widest range of post-secondary educational and employment opportunities possible.
When Matt isn’t working on his Jeep or Subaru, you can find him hiking with his wife Juliet. He is creative in the kitchen and makes a tasty meal over a campfire. He enjoys drumming, photography, backpacking, snow sports and recently discovered a new hobby of ice fishing this past winter.
Please join us as we welcome Matt Kennedy, MVSD’s Welding, Fabrication, and Automotive Technology Instructor!
