In partnership with Okanogan Behavioral Health Care, MVSD is thrilled to introduce the newest member of our student support team, Maureen Collins. Maureen is initiating her internship in Mental Health Counseling with Sean Fitzpatrick serving as her mentor.
Maureen has served the Methow Valley for several years as a client advocate at Room One, where she is still employed. Serving the Methow Valley as an advocate prompted her to consider a career as a behavioral health specialist. She’s currently finishing her Masters in Social Work with a focus on clinical social work. Maureen’s interest in working with youth developed while working with Dani Golden as a guest yoga teacher at Liberty Bell. There, she became aware of the need for additional mental health support for youth specifically.
Maureen looks forward to helping young people realize they are more than their thoughts and emotions, that facing difficult experiences is not only possible but also worthwhile. She’s excited to develop new relationships while learning from and alongside youth.
When she’s not working or doing homework, she is folding paper into kusudama origami shapes, reading Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series, and keeping her cats from eating her houseplants.
