Acknowledging the social and emotional health and wellness of our students, Methow Valley Elementary has expanded the position to full time and selected Keri Moore to lead that effort.
Keri currently works at Room One, providing a variety of services in support of students and families who reside in the Methow Valley. Keri grew up in the suburbs of Chicago with a large extended family of Michiganders. After finishing her degrees in English and International Studies at the University of Iowa, she found herself immediately in the classroom as an elementary special education paraprofessional. It became clear to her that teaching filled her heart. She quickly moved on to receive her Masters in TESOL/Applied Linguistics at the University of Illinois at Chicago, leading her to teach English Language at an inner city community college that predominantly served refugee and asylum-seeking students.
Keri moved to the Methow in 2016. For the past few years, she has been working with the valley’s teens on health, relationships and social/emotional learning through Room One. Her time spent working at Room One has offered an abundance of opportunities to support youth and families needing extra support, and at the same time, develop trusting, nurturing relationships. When asked about her new position as the MVE School Counselor, Keri stated that she is deeply honored to carry this heart-centered work forward in support of Methow Valley youth on a broader scale.
When we asked a member of the District’s interview committee to comment on the District’s decision to hire Keri, they stated, “Keri knows schools, and knows the community. She is uniquely suited to step in and support the students, families, and staff of Methow Valley Elementary.”
Outside of school, Keri enjoys spending her time foraging, running, gravel biking, and kayaking in the surrounding landscape, as well as tending to her ever growing garden. She lives here with her husband Chris and their dog Cormac.
Keri will be replacing current MVE Counselor Tracie Powney, who intends to enter into private practice, counseling children and adolescents of the Methow Valley.
Please join us as we welcome Keri Moore!
