MVSD Welcomes Tara Doherty, New ILC Advisor

Tara Doherty - Independent Learning Center AdvisorThe Methow Valley School District is pleased to announce the selection of Tara Doherty as the Independent Learning Center’s newest advisor. Tara will be replacing long-time ILC Advisor, Kim Odell who resigned from her position following the end of the 2021-22 school year.

Growing up in a military family, Tara has lived in many places – California, Colorado, and New York, eventually settling in Minnesota. However, the mountains were always calling her back. So, when she was ready, she moved to the mountain town of Bend, Oregon with her husband. After 20 years in Bend, Tara and her husband took time off to travel and find a new smaller mountain town with a sense of community. Fortunately they ended up in the Methow Valley.

Tara has two main passions in life: creating art and working with youth. She was able to connect these two by going to Portland State University and acquiring her Master’s in Education with Art & Special Ed endorsements.

When asked about her philosophy about teaching and learning, Tara stated that she believes that some students do not fit into the standard style of learning. Thus, she has spent her education career working in alternative programs. She is excited to learn all she can from the amazing team at the ILC and work with youth to help them realize their full potential.

When Tara isn’t working, she is often reading, walking with her cattle dog Frito, doing yoga, making art, and spending time with family. She is looking forward to becoming a part of the community and being closer to family in the Seattle area.

Please join us as we welcome Tara Doherty, new ILC Advisor!
