Considering the Inclusion of Trans and Nonbinary Children in Schools
Join us Wednesday, December 7th, 5 – 6 p.m. for the first virtual Parent University session of the 2022-2023 school year featuring Aidan Key. A nationally-recognized speaker, educator, author, and organizer, Key is dedicated to increasing understanding and awareness of gender identity development.
Key’s gender-related work guides schools and organizations in expanding their knowledge of gender diverse children and teens; offers best practices related to trans youth; emphasizes the inclusion of gender identity and gender expression in existing diversity policies, and helps to identify the practical, everyday ways in which to implement this inclusion.
With at least twenty-one states having passed some kind of restriction on transgender people, the inclusion and access for trans and nonbinary children in school is as important as ever. Key will focus on the ways all families can partner with schools to create and support a gender-inclusive environment and explore the barriers encountered.
Key is the principal trainer at Gender Diversity and founder of Trans Families, an organization that provides online support to families of gender diverse children across the nation. He is the author of the Trans Bodies, Trans Selves and upcoming book Trans Children in Today’s Schools. Key was selected as one of Seattle Magazine’s 2019 Most Influential People of the Year.
All virtual Parent University events are free to the greater Seattle and Methow communities, but please be sure to register in advance!
