Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. ~ Mark Twain
We’re pleased to announce that after 25 years of exceptional service as a middle school and elementary teacher with the MVSD, Carrie Fink will be setting sail, embarking on an epic journey following the conclusion of the 2022-23 school year. Carrie has accepted an international teaching position at The American School of the Hague (ASH) in the Netherlands, beginning in the fall of the 2023-24 school year!
With nearly 30 years of experience as a teacher, 25 years of which has taken place as middle school and elementary school teacher with the Methow Valley School District, Carrie recently stated, “I am grateful to have been a part of this community of learners… Students, parents and staff have taught me so much about relationships and I am thankful for the support, encouragement and the inspiration over the years. Colleagues, administration, parents and students have contributed to the teacher I am today. Thank you everyone for your support and because of our amazing school here in the Methow Valley, I can go overseas and teach in another great school!” She was quick to add, “I will be back to the Methow Valley I know and love!”
ASH describes itself in part as a school that prides itself as a place that offers,”…a varied, comprehensive educational program that challenges students to excel in their learning and grow as creative, committed people of character. Our programs in athletics, performing arts, speech and debate, and our service clubs help students of all ages engage with the world outside of school as well.”
Founded in the 1950’s by Louis Weiland, a Dutch educator, wife to U.S. Lt. Col. James Debardelben, and mother of three, ASH is located in Wassenaar. It is described as a, “…quiet village on the outskirts of Leiden and The Hague, provides an ideal background for learning and raising a family. Our proximity to quiet beaches, scenic dunes, and innumerable picturesque waterways provides ample chances for study, exploration, and adventure. Within short bike rides, you can be in The Hague, the center of government in the country and known as the International City of Peace and Justice, housing several international agencies, courts, and tribunals and a strong example of the inclusive crossroads of Europe that is the Netherlands. Head in the other direction and the bustling university town of Leiden offers multiple cultural and educational activities, in letters and sciences alike.”
Please join us as we congratulate Carrie Fink!
