Having completed a highly successful season, the Methow Cycling Team, a member of of the Washington Student Cycling League is preparing to host the 2023 WSCL State Championships, Sunday June 4, here on our very own “student-initiated” Meadowlark Trail (located on the MVSD campus).
Racing begins at 9:45 am with 6th and 7th graders, followed by 8th graders at 11:00 am, and concludes with the varsity, JV and advanced middle school riders starting at 12:30.
MCT Coach, Jeremy Newman encourages the entire community to, “…come out and support this amazing group of kids as they race their home course for the honor of being 2023 Washington State Champion.”
When asked how he anticipates our team will perform, competing against some of the state’s top riders, he Jermey stated, “We have no less than 10 racers who are major contenders for the State Championship title this year.” He also added, “Keep your eye on reigning Girls Varsity State Champ and MVSD Senior, Stella Scholz. Stella is fresh off the national level Englewood Open, a UCI sanctioned XCO race in Fall River, Wisconsin where she raced to 10th place against the best junior women’s cross country racers in the nation. The Methow girls have been dominating the WSCL this season so watch for them to go for the sweep on the home turf.”
Who is the Methow Cycling Team?
The Methow Cycling Team is a nonprofit dedicated to supporting youth development, leadership, teamwork, health, and stewardship of public lands through the love of cycling. We support our riders at practices three days a week and through each race of the season. Coaches and parents promote a community atmosphere by camping together, sharing pre race day potlucks, race day BBQ’s, shared responsibilities and parent involved coaching. Your rider does not need to be interested in racing to be a part of the team. We encourage all kids interested in learning to be a better mountain biker to come and join us for practices. We are set up to accommodate anyone who wants to ride more in a supportive atmosphere.
Please join us as we congratulate the MCT coaches and riders on a successful season and look forward to cheering them on during the upcoming WSCL State Championships!
