LB Clubs & Activities

Mountain Lion MascotWe are thrilled to offer a range of clubs and activities designed for students in grades 6-12, offered free of charge, thanks to funding support from the Public School Funding Alliance.

Our clubs and activities provide students with the opportunity to stay active, learn new skills, and connect with peers, all in a safe, well-managed environment. With the exception of Wednesday clubs, all activities will start at 3:30 p.m. and wrap-up around 5:00 p.m.

Bus Service

Bus service is available to Winthrop (Red Barn) and Twisp (Community Center). The bus arrives in Winthrop at approximately 5:20 p.m. and in Twisp at approximately 5:35 p.m. On Wednesdays, there will be additional bus service:

Mountain Lion Clubs

Mondays

Disc Golf • Grades 6-12 • Led by Coach Phil Quevillon • Meets Mondays and Fridays
Learn the basics or refine your throwing technique. Get out to have a great time throwing disc on our beautiful campus–all skill levels welcome. Meet at 3:30 p.m. at the first tee of the course (the field near the parking lot NW of LBHS).

Yoga & Journaling Club • Grades 6-8 • Led by Lisa Whatley
(UN)Tangled – an opportunity for middle school girls to connect with themselves and each other, learning and practicing the principles of Yoga Calm® – Educating Heart, Mind, & Body. Tuesdays

Mt. Bike Club • Grades 4-6 • Led by Rachel Mozzetta and Chris Moore
Students will learn technical mountain bike skills, and gain strength and endurance. Students will need to bring their own bike & helmet. If your student needs a bike, please connect with Laurel. Limit 12 students.

Creative Mail Club • Grades 9-12 • Led by Molly Starcher
Come listen to tunes and tear up old magazines to create collage mail masterpieces! You’ll be the talk of the Post Office after joining this club as we put together beautiful and wacky letters, handmade envelopes, and postcards created with paints, recycled magazines, picture books and more! Not only will we create these fun pieces of mail, we will be sending off letters and postcards to the people we care about wherever they may be. Limit 10 students. Meet in Mr. Grayum’s room.

Olympic Weightlifting Club • Grades 6-12 • Led by Jeremiah Wicken • Meets Tuesdays and Thursdays all year
Do you want to improve your physique, get stronger, more powerful, run faster, boost work capacity, protect against injury, improve bone density, enhance coordination, improve sports performance, confidence, range of motion, and develop dynamic stability? Come join us in the Olympic Weightlifting Club! Learn & improve your performance in the Snatch and Clean & Jerk. Advanced athletes can train to prepare to compete in an Olympic Lifting competition. Meet 3:30-5:30 p.m. in the Lion’s Den.

Wednesdays

Jiu Jitsu Club • Grades 6-8 • Led by educator Gunnar Doggett
Learn an introduction to jiu jitsu and submission grappling – the most effective ground combat for self defense. This club is open to all experience levels. Limit 30 students. Meet in the MVE Wrestling Room at 1:30 p.m.

Chess Club • Grades 6-8 • Led by educator Christopher Cripps
This club will Introduce students to the fun and challenge of playing chess. Only basic skills are required to start. Each session would start with a mini-lesson to reinforce key concepts that repeat themselves (e.g., castling to protect the king, how to develop pieces, basic forks, discovered attack, discovered check, etc.). Students will play with each other and the instructor. Students will also do skill-appropriate chess puzzles, both individually and collectively. Prior chess experience is required. Limit 12 students. Meet in Ms. Edwards Room at 1:30 p.m.

Soccer Club • Grades 6-8 • Led by educator Christopher Cripps
Come out and learn some new skills, play small sided games and have fun! HS varsity soccer players will be assisting with drills and instruction. Open to all levels. Meet at the LBHS practice soccer field at 1:30 p.m.

Kickball Club • Grades 4-8 • Led by Cailee Maestro
Youth kickball is a great way for kids to build social skills, develop teamwork and an active lifestyle. In Kickball Club kids will learn sport fundamentals like kicking, throwing and catching through practice and game play. It’s easy to learn and fun to play, making it a perfect game for kids of all ages. Limit 25 students. Meet at the MVE fields at 1:30 p.m.

Spirit Club • Grades 7-12 • Led by Claire Hamilton
Lion Pride is a LBHS sponsored club in which students will spread school spirit, develop leadership skills and create community. Participation in this club gives students the opportunity to cheer for and celebrate their peers while also participating in a sport. Students will learn, create and teach crowd cheers for events, make spirit posters and signs, decorate lockers and travel buses, hype the LBHS crowd, plan pep assemblies and collaborate with alumni and current students as well as the ASB and pep band to foster positive school spirit and pride in our school. All students are welcome and new ideas are encouraged! Meet in the Liberty Bell Commons at 1:30 p.m.

Thursdays

Beginning Tennis Club • Grades 6-8 • Leb by Lindsay Evans & Keri Miles
Join us to learn the basics and fundamentals of tennis! Students are encouraged to bring their own equipment, but we will have some to borrow. Proper sneakers and athletic clothes are required to play. Limit 20 students. Meet at the tennis courts at 3:30 p.m.

Games Club • Grades 6-12 • Led by Gamesmaster Phil Quevillon
This club is on-going but registration is open and spots are available! Limit 10 students. Meet in the LBHS Library.

Dance Team Club • Grades 9-12 • Led by LFW Dance • Begins September 16th
Come learn a high energy jazz/funk hip hop routine! This club is hosted by LFW Dance, choreography by Lorrie Wilson and Dance Caption ILC Graduate, Kacie Arndt. There are 5 sessions: September 16th, 23rd, 30th & Oct. 6th & 14th, with a final performance at the Homecoming Game! Limit 12 students. Meet in the LBHS Cafeteria.
