LB Clubs & Activities

Mountain Lion MascotWe are thrilled to offer a range of clubs and activities designed for students in grades 6-12, offered free of charge, thanks to funding support from the Public School Funding Alliance.

Our clubs and activities provide students with the opportunity to stay active, learn new skills, and connect with peers, all in a safe, well-managed environment. With the exception of Wednesday clubs, all activities will start at 3:30 p.m. and wrap-up around 5:00 p.m.

Bus Service

All Clubs, except those meeting on Wednesday, run from 3:10 – 5:00 p.m. **There is no 5 p.m. Bus service at this time.

Wednesday Clubs run from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. Bus service IS available to Winthrop (Red Barn) and Twisp (Community Center) at 3 p.m. The bus usually arrives at approximately 3:15 p.m. in Winthrop and 3:30 p.m. in Twisp.

Olympic Weightlifting Club (Tuesdays/Thursdays) • Grades 6-12 • Led by Jeremiah Wicken
Do you want to improve your physique, get stronger, more powerful, run faster, boost work capacity, protect against injury, improve bone density, enhance coordination, improve sports performance, confidence, range of motion, and develop dynamic stability?

Come join us in the Olympic Weightlifting Club! Learn & improve your performance in the Snatch and Clean & Jerk. Advanced athletes can train to prepare to compete in an Olympic Lifting competition. Meets 3:30-5:30 p.m. in the Lion’s Den. See you at the gym!

Ecological Art & Writing Club (Tuesdays/Thursdays) • Grades 10-12 • Hosted by The Bush School
Inspired by the saying “seek first to understand, then be understood”, we are excited to invite 10th-12th grade Liberty Bell, ILC, and visiting Bush students to collaborate, learn, and discuss the most pressing ecological issues that Washington state faces in 2022.

Using art as a conduit for climate justice, we will create original pieces that spread awareness and express our feelings about the topics we explore. Weekly meetings will be accompanied by guest speakers and experts from the community to help broaden our understanding about environmental issues and curate a body of artistic work.

At the end of January, families will have the opportunity to celebrate the collaboration with refreshments and learning. Five sessions ONLY (Tuesdays/Thursdays) from Thursday, January 12th through Thursday, January 26th. Limit 12 students. Meet at LBHS, room TBD. Wednesdays

Trashion Fashion Club • Grades 4-6 • Led by Hillary Ketcham & Colbey Breed
Students will create fashion with recycled materials. Limit 15 students. Meet in the MVE Art Room.

Chess Club • Grades 6-8 • Led by Christopher Cripps
This club will introduce students to the fun and challenge of playing chess. Only basic skills are needed to start. Each session would start with a mini-lesson to reinforce key concepts that repeat themselves (e.g., castling to protect the king, how to develop pieces, basic forks, discovered attack, discovered check, etc.).

Students will play with each other and the instructor. Students will also do skill-appropriate chess puzzles, both individually and collectively. **Prior chess experience is required. Limit 8 students. 1:30-3:00 p.m. Meet in Ms. Edwards’ Room.

Youth Hoops Club • Grades 5-7 • Led by Riley Lidey & Friends
This club will be held at LBHS Gym.

Cooking Club • Grades 9-12 • Led by Jean Wilson
Looking for an adventure? Look no further! If you’d like to learn to prepare perfect sushi rice, a simple teriyaki sauce, plus find out about the essentials of Asian cooking, come & join! Jean has been teaching Asian cooking in the Methow Valley for over 10 years, and would love to share her knowledge. Limit 12 students. Meet in the LBHS Home Ec Room.

Explore the world of role-playing games with Gamesmaster Phil Quevillon. This club is on-going but registration is open and spots are available! Limit 10 students. Meet at 3:30 p.m. in the LBHS Library.

After School Clubs in Our Community

Methow Valley Nordic Ski Team

Multiple elementary school skiers at XC team practice. Register for the 2022/23 Methow Valley Nordic Team ski season!

Kids ages 6 – 18 yrs old can join to ski two days per week through the winter with experienced coaches, on trails across the Methow and including our own school campus trail network! Financial aid is available for any family to help cover the costs of registration and equipment rentals, to ensure any child who wants to participate is able to.
