MVSD Playground Committee Charter
Purpose:
Working within the district’s vision, the Methow Valley School District aspires to develop healthy, fit, active youth through the construction of an ADA compliant playground that meets National Playground Safety Standards.
Basis for Establishment:
The MVSD wishes to invite all interested stakeholders to participate in a transparent and inclusive planning process to plan construct a new ADA compliant playground that meets National Playground Safety Standards.
Budget Implications:
The committee will work within the scope of ideas gathered from students, research associated with play areas, and budget provided by the voter approved, Capital Projects – Facilities Improvement Levy.

Responsibilities of Committee Members:
- Serve as a key communicator and liaison to stakeholder groups.
- Be an active participant and learner, committed to attending all meetings.
- Actively solicit and provide input from stakeholders to guide committee’s work.
- Participate in cycle of research, analysis and recommendation.
- Provide a playground design that is ADA compliant and meets state safety requirements, and includes phases of construction and budget planning.
Decision-Making Process:
- Committee members gather information from equipment representatives, construction contractors and budget managers.
- Committee members select equipment and contractors within budget guidelines, and plan a construction timeline.
- Committee makes recommendations to the superintendent.
Plan of Work Timeline:
February 20, 2019 – 4:00 pm at MVSD District Office
- Review purpose, set committee agreements, and set schedule of future dates
- Examine research
- Review student input
2nd and 3rd Meetings – Dates to be determined by committee
- Presentations by Playground Equipment Representatives
4th Meeting – Date to be determined by committee
- Evaluate information gathered from playground representatives
- Engage in deliberations (equipment, budget, timelines, etc.)
- Prepare to submit final recommendation to superintendent
5th Meeting – Date to be determined by committee
- Prepare to submit final recommendation to superintendent
Additional meetings will be scheduled as deemed necessary by the committee chair.

The District Search and Selection Committee will consist of the following members:
- Jean Koreski, Physical Education Specialist – Committee Chair
- Bud Hover, Director of Operations and Capital Projects
- 1-2 Certificated Staff Members, Grades K-2
- 1-2 Certificated Staff Members, Grades 3-62
- 1-2 Students
- 1-2 Parent Members
- 1-2 Community Members/Educational Partners
